Sleiman stresses need to provide LAF with international cover

President Michel Sleiman received Sunday a number of phone calls, congratulating him over the formation of the new cabinet, including a call from the UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon, who expressed the UN’s keenness on assisting the government.

For his part, Sleiman stressed the need to implement the decisions reached during the meeting of the International Support Group for Lebanon held in New York, and to deploy the necessary efforts to hold similar meetings in France and Italy.

He also called for guaranteeing international cover for the Lebanese Armed Forces and providing the institution with equipment, as a part of the Saudi grant, in order to be able to defend Lebanon, control the internal situation and maintain civil peace.

The president also received calls from the Greek Orthodox Patriarch Youhanna Yazigi and the deputy head of the deputy head of the Higher Shiite Islamic Council, Sheikh Abdul Amir Qabalan.
