Former ministers hand over their duties to ministers of Salam’s new cabinet

Ministers of the new cabinet formed by Prime Minister Tammam Salam took over their ministerial duties from their predecessors on Tuesday.

In this context, former minister Mohammad Safadi handed over the Finance ministry to Minister Ali Hassan Khalil, while a handover ceremony was held between former Minister Nicolas Sehnaoui and Boutros Harb at the Telecommunications Ministry.

In turn, Social Affairs Minister Rashid Derbass took over his duties from former Minister Wael Abou Faour.

Lebanon announced a new government on Saturday, breaking more than 10 months of political deadlock during which spillover of violence from neighboring Syria worsened internal instability.

A caretaker government has run the country since former Prime Minister Najib Mikati resigned in March as parties aligned with the Shi'ite Hezbollah movement and a Sunni-led rival bloc pursued a power struggle exacerbated by their support for opposing sides in Syria's almost three-year-old civil war.
