Health Minister Wael Abou Faour followed up on the issue raised by LBCI’s TV show “Hki Jelis”, pertaining to the use of a harmful substance in the strained yogurt products (Labneh) in some of the Lebanese dairy factories.
The minister’s media bureau issued a statement in this regard on Wednesday whereby the ministry confirmed the use of a substance called “Natamycin” in the strained yogurt products in two Lebanese dairy factories.
The statement noted that this confirmation is based on lab tests conducted at the Swiss UFAG Laboratories and sent to the Lebanese health ministry.
Accordingly, Minister Abou Faour sent a letter to Minister of Economy and Trade Alain Hakim, calling on the Consumer Protection Directorate to take the necessary measures to prevent the consumption of the strained yogurt products produced by the two Lebanese factories, before the official procedures are finalized.
