Lebanon's government wins vote of confidence

The government of Prime Minister Tammam Salam won on Thursday the vote of confidence by the majority of 96 votes out of 101 during the afternoon's parliamentary session. 4 deputies refused to give confidence vote while one deputy abstained from voting.

Head of Future bloc MP Fouad Siniora gave the vote of confidence for the cabinet, adding that the formation of the government "is a challenge and opportunity both at once."

MP Siniora also urged Hezbollah to withdraw from Syria, adding that the cabinet should restore the role of the state and its institutions in order to end the crisis in the country.

This as head of Loyalty to the Resistance bloc MP Mohammad Raad granted the government the vote of confidence, stressing keenness on ensuring the success of the cabinet's mission.

Raad noted that the resistance is a fundamental factor in national consensus, adding that the resistance will remain as long as Israel exits and occupies Lebanese land.

He also hoped that the presidential elections will be held on time.

In turn, Prime Minister Tammam Salam said the cabinet will try to revive the constitutional institutions, adding that “no one should expect miracles, we will do our utmost to meet urgent needs”.

On Wednesday the Parliament convened in a session where the deputies delivered speeches pertaining to the security situation, the Syrian crisis and the political and economic challenges.
