Germany to receive 10 thousand Syrian refugees from Lebanon - Minister

German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier stated on Tuesday that Lebanon is being affected by the Syrian events, emphasizing that the situation in Syria has left a negative impact on Lebanon’s political stability.

In a joint press conference with his Lebanese counterpart, Foreign Affairs Minister Gebran Bassil, Germany’s Steinmeier noted that Lebanon is facing the burden of the Syrian refugees as well as the issue of providing them with medical care and education.

In this regard, Steinmeier stated that Germany will receive 10,000 ٍSyrian refugees from Lebanon in a bid to share the burden.

On another note, Minister Steinmeier ruled out the possibility of any political stability in Syria for the present time, pointing out that he will be heading to the Middle Eastern region by the end of May to further discuss the Syrian dossier.

For his part, Minister Bassil emphasized that Lebanon is suffering from the enormous pressure imposed by the presence of Syrian refugees, adding that any direct assistance to the refugees will lead to the extension of their stay in Lebanon.

The United Nations High Relief Commission declared on the 28th of April that the number of Syrian refugees distributed across the Lebanese regions has exceeded 1 million refugees.
