Newly assigned Iranian ambassador: Lebanon has a major regional role
The newly assigned Iranian ambassador to Lebanon, Mohammad Fathali, stressed Wednesday that Lebanon has a major role that influences important regional developments.

In a speech he delivered at the foreign ministry, Fathali noted that he seeks greater cooperation between Lebanon and Iran, stressing that “he will try to build bridges with all the Lebanese political factions.”

The ambassador arrived to Beirut International Airport on Wednesday morning, where he was welcomed by several political and party officials, representatives from the Palestinian factions Hamas and the Islamic Jihad as well as staff from the Iranian embassy.

Fathali, a Middle East expert, will replace the former Iranian Ambassador to Lebanon Ghazanfar Roknabadi.

Speaker Nabih Berri met on Tuesday at Ain Tineh with Rokenabadi who came on a farewell visit upon the end of his mission in Lebanon.

Following the meeting, Rokenabadi reiterated that Iran backs the holding of the presidential elections “upon the consent of all Lebanese people.”
