Kahwaji marking Liberation Day: LAF will remain united to live up to aspirations placed upon it
Lebanese Armed Forces Commander General Jean Kahwaji voiced on Friday hopes that political leaders would reach consensus over the presidential deadlock prior to constitutional deadline set for May 25.

“The dangerous and delicate situation in the country raises fears on vacuum in the presidency,” Kahwaji said in a statement read ahead of Liberation Day, celebrated on May 25.

He called on LAF soldiers to mark the occasion of the Resistance and Liberation day, which commemorates the Israeli army’s withdrawal from South Lebanon in May 2000, to “safeguard the country's unity and stability.”

“Despite all the tragic events that we are witnessing, we will stay united, working so that the LAF would live up to the aspirations and expectations placed upon it,” Kahwaji added.

He concluded by saying that the “army and resistance martyrs made Lebanon a model in the Arab-Israeli world."
