MP Kanaan: Lebanon faces crisis related to political representation
Member of the Change and Reform bloc MP Ibrahim Kanaan said Saturday that the Christians have the primary and essential role in the presidential electoral process, stressing that they cannot stand as “false witnesses.”

In a statement to LBCI’s Nharkom Said, Kanaan noted that the parliamentary blocs are well aware that the electoral process in Lebanon changed after the Taef Agreement, pointing out that the country has been facing a real crisis of political representation.

“Lebanon is a sectarian country and the problem does not lie in the quorum,” he said.

In this regard, Kanaan denied that his bloc ever mentioned the statement “either Aoun or vacuum,” expressing his understanding to the Patriarch Beshara Boutros Rai’s concern regarding the impact of a presidential void.

Accordingly, he called for electing a strong president capable of unifying the Lebanese factions.
