Salam discusses with ministerial committee dossier of Syrian refugees
Prime Minister Tammam Salam chaired on Monday a meeting for a ministerial committee in the presence of Social Affairs Minister Rashid Derbass, Interior Minister Nouhad Mashnouq, and Foreign Affairs Minister Gebran Bassil and discussed with them the issue of Syrian refugees.

Following the meeting, Minister Derbass stated that all Syrian national who leave the Lebanese territories will lose their status as refugees, stressing that Lebanese authorities will not receive Syrians coming from places deemed safe.

Interior Minister Nouhad Mashnouq announced on Saturday the 31st of May that Syrian refugees in Lebanon will lose their refugee status if they return to Syria for a visit.

The decision comes only few days after tens of thousands of Syrians flocked to their Beirut embassy to vote in the election.

The refugee influx into Lebanon has burdened the country's weak economy, with politicians on all sides calling for measures to limit the flow.
