Former PM Hariri: Assad's survival equals war, destruction in Syria
Former Prime Minister Saad Hariri condemned on Thursday the Syrian election as a “farce,” noting that the world must come together to end what he described as "the phenomenon of Bashar al-Assad".

President Bashar al-Assad secured a landslide victory in a wartime election that was condemned as a sham by his opponents.

Parliamentary speaker Mohammad al-Laham said Assad secured 88.7 percent of votes cast in the election, which was held mainly in the central and western parts of the country, where his forces hold sway.

Hariri, one of Assad's main critics in Lebanon, noted that "the survival of the Syrian president equals war, terrorism and destruction in Syria," and said: "It is high time to stop this tragic masquerade".

“The Syrian people need an international resolution to end the project of destruction in Syria,” he concluded.
