MP Abi Ramia: Lebanese people have been turned into hostages of economic interests

Head of Youth and Sports parliamentary committee MP Simon Abi Ramia held on Saturday a press conference in which he said that the Lebanese people have been turned into hostages of economic interests that are abandoning their rights of watching the World Cup games.

Abi Rami called for forming an emergency ministerial committee to pay the required amount of money to SAMA, so that Tele Liban gains the right of airing the World Cup games.

SAMA is the sole agent of beIN Sports in Lebanon.

beIN Sports is an international network of sports channels owned by Qatari Sports Investments, an affiliate of Al-Jazeera Media Networks.

It has purchased the rights to broadcast the World Cup matches in the Middle East.

Many Lebanese people are unable to afford the fees imposed by SAMA to purchase receiver cards that allow them to see the World Cup matches, leaving several households unable to watch the games.

Television cable providers in Lebanon criticized on Friday the state for failing to address the issue of broadcasting the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
