Patriarchs Yaziji, Laham meet, discuss situation in Iraq, Syria

Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch Youhanna X Yazigi met on Thursday Melkite Greek Catholic Patriarch of Antioch and All the East Gregorios III Laham, with talks featuring high on the latest developments and security events prevailing in the region specifically in Iraq and Syria, and the severe repercussions affecting the Christian community in the region as a result.

“Amid the current situation in Iraq, Syria and Lebanon, the church must play an important role and must take the right decisions,” Patriarch Yaziji said.

For his part, Patriarch Laham noted that, due to the regional situation, officials must reconsider their diplomatic relations in order to deal with the tragic and decisive challenges taking place in the Middle East.
