US House Foreign Affairs Committee prevents financial institutions from funding Hezbollah

The US House Foreign Affairs Committee approved a sanctions bill that prevents any financial institutions from funding Hezbollah.

The bill includes a provision that target countries that refuse to hinder Hezbollah's fundraising, money laundering and global logistics networks.

It was backed by the pro-Israel lobby American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC).

It also targets Hezbollah's al-Manar TV by requiring the U.S. administration to penalize any satellite provider that still carries the television channel.

The U.S. labels Hezbollah as a terrorist group and accuses Syria and Iran of arming it.

The resolution also gives US President Barrack Obama 30 days to decide whether Hezbollah is considered a "narcotics trafficker" or a "transnational criminal organization."

In 2013, Obama renewed “national emergency” with respect to Lebanon, which imposes a freeze on assets of people linked to Hezbollah for "undermining Lebanon's stability."
