Mosul's Christians in Lebanon recount their sufferings

Father Georges Youkhana, an Assyrian Orthodox priest asserted on Wednesday that the Iraqi Christians who are fleeing the Islamic State "terrorism" in Iraq take refuge in the Assyrian Orthodox church in Lebanon which in turn, give their names to Caritas and the United Nations organizations to be registered as refugees.

Father Youkhana's comments were made during Nharkom Said TV show in which he said that the Iraqi Christians are taking refuge in Iraq's Irbil, Turkey and Lebanon.

In turn, the Secretary of the Assyrian Church of the East Supreme Council Roger Savo asserted that the Christian families fleeing Iraq prefer to resort to their relatives in Lebanon instead of living in tents in Turkey.

Most Christians left Mosul Iraq's second-largest city and home to some of the most ancient Christian communities after the Islamic State and other Sunni militants captured the city June 10 in a brutal march across swaths of Iraq.

The militants gave them a deadline, since passed, to convert to Islam, pay a tax or face death.
