Mufti Qabbani: Arsal incidents are not accidental

The Mufti of the Republic Sheikh Mohammad Rashid Qabbani said Monday that the incidents taking place in the region of Arsal and its surroundings, and which have left several killed, injured and displaced, are not accidental, but are premeditated.

In this regard, Qabbani stressed that the mission of the Lebanese army is to maintain the safety of Lebanon and its people, pointing out that any attack targeting the military institution aims at harming the country as a whole and comes within the framework of fomenting strife and chaos.

Clashes erupted in Arsal on Saturday afternoon when Syrian gunmen deployed across the region after the Lebanese Armed Forces arrested Syrian national Imad Ahmad Jomaa at a checkpoint.

16 LAF members were killed AFP reported, and dozens injured, while at least 20 soldiers were reported missing, presumed kidnapped by the gunmen during the clashes that left several militants also killed.
