Israel combs Wazzani area, erects earth mounds

The state-run National News Agency reported on Thursday that an Israeli infantry unit combed the heights near the village of Wazzani and the occupied town of Ghajar, south of Lebanon.

The agency added that the unit was backed by an Israeli drone that flew over the al-Abbasiyeh and the Shebaa farms.

Also on Thursday, an Israeli bulldozer erected earth mounds in al-Wazzani area near the parks, the agency concluded by saying.

Israel occupied large swathes of southern Lebanon for 22 years between 1978 and 2000. The region was also devastated in 2006 following a war between Israel and Hezbollah.

Fighting between Israel and Hezbollah came to end after United Nations resolution 1701 was adopted, calling for an immediate cessation of hostilities, establishing an arms embargo over Lebanon, inviting the Secretary-General to secure agreements from Lebanon and Israel to the principles and elements for a long-term solution and boosting the United Nations Interim Forces in Lebanon (UNIFIL) presence considerably.
