Lebanon’s Permanent Military Tribunal Judge Brigadier General Khalil Ibrahim interrogated on Tuesday six arrestees who were detained on suspicion of involvement in the Abra clashes. The court approved the release of one detainee and postponed the interrogation pertaining to the remaining five.
The suspects were detained following clashes that erupted last year in Abra, south Lebanon, between the followers of a radical Sunni cleric Sheikh Ahmad al-Assir and the Lebanese army.
The attacks resulted in the death of 18 LAF soldiers and around 40 of Assir’s fighters.
