Earlier, sources with knowledge of negotiations being held to release the kidnapped Lebanese troops confirmed that a swap operation has been approved, in principle.
"Should this operation take place, it will not involve inmates serving time at the Roumieh prison," the sources said.
"The release of prisoners against whom no charges were pressed or those who served their sentences but haven't yet been released has been suggested," they noted.
"The release of the Roumieh Islamists will not take place today," the same sources added.
Meanwhile, other sources reported that Al-Nusra Front fighters are demanding the release of Imad Jomaa who was arrested at a military checkpoint in Arsal on the 2nd of August as well as Joumana Hmaid who is accused of transporting a booby-trapped car from the northeastern border town of Arsal to a town in Bekaa, and 15 Syrian gunmen.
On Sunday, Lebanon's military said an al-Qaeda-linked Syrian rebel group released five members of the Lebanese security forces captured earlier this month in a cross-border raid.
The men were taken hostage when militants from Syria took over the Lebanese border town of Arsal for five days before withdrawing toward the Syrian frontier, taking with them Lebanese soldiers and policemen as hostages. The clashes were the most dangerous spillover of violence from the civil war in neighboring Syria.
The state-run National News Agency said Sunday that the Nusra Front, al-Qaeda's Syrian affiliate, freed the five men late Saturday. The Lebanese army confirmed their release in a statement.
While the release of the five men provided a degree of relief, concerns remain about the troops and policemen still in captivity.
