Rai: Presidential vacuum is a blow to Lebanon’s dignity
Maronite Patriarch Bechara Rai lamented on Thursday the ongoing presidential vacuum, urging MPs to exercise their duty and elect a president.

“Lebanon has been deprived of a president for factional reasons,” he added.

Rai’s remarks were made during a mass marking the eleventh anniversary of the inauguration of the patriarchate garden in Qanoubin.

Rai stressed that the presidential vacuum is “a blow to Lebanese dignity and Lebanon's constitution.”

Lebanon has been without a president since May when the mandate of Michel Sleiman ended.

Parliament has failed to elect his successor due to disputes between the rival March 8 and 14 camps over a consensual candidate.

Several election sessions have been staged, but they were not held due to a boycott of the majority of March 8 bloc.
