Head of the Progressive Socialist Party, MP Walid Jumblatt said that the accusations launched against him over his stances regarding the issue of the abducted soldiers are peculiar.
"It is very strange how some people try to accuse me of launching sectarian positions, noting that the abducted troops belong to various sects," he stated, denouncing any attempt to turn this national cause into a sectarian issue.
In his weekly statement to al-Anbaa website, Jumblatt raised questions over "the new proposal calling for cooperation between the Lebanese and Syrian army," adding that Lebanon will not achieve any goal through an operational cooperation with the Syrian regime and its army, especially after "its credibility has hit rock bottom."
"Why is there always a link between the release of the Lebanese hostages with the release of Syrian soldiers?" he asked.
In this context, MP Jumblatt slammed the parties criticizing the efforts exerted by the PSP to reach a solution for the issue of the Lebanese captives, stressing the need to have a unified position within the ministerial committee tasked with this issue, in a bid to put an end to the doubts in this regard and find radical solutions.
