Hezbollah’s Nasrallah, Iraq’s Maliki say regional governments will triumph over Islamic State
Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah received on Tuesday Iraqi Vice-President Nouri Al-Maliki with both officials saying the people and governments of the region will triumph over the Islamic State militant group and other similar organizations.

They also said that “the aforementioned organizations and their devastating projects have no future at all in any country in the region”.

According to a statement issued by Hezbollah's media relations department, both officials highlighted the need to “cooperate to roll back all forms of sectarian and religious strife and to address the takfiri movements that pose a threat to everyone”.

On Saturday, Iraqi Vice-President Nouri Al-Maliki said he was optimistic that his country will be a “graveyard” for the Islamic State militant group, noting “the IS group should be eliminated in Iraq as well as in Syria”.

“Iraq and Syria are historically interlinked,” Maliki said upon his arrival to Beirut, adding “the world must take joint action to combat terrorism”.

The Islamic State group has declared a self-styled Islamic caliphate in areas under its control in Iraq and Syria, governing it according to its violent interpretation of Shariah law.

The group has carried out mass killings targeting government security forces, ethnic minorities and others against it.

“The airstrikes carried out by the international coalition are helpful but do not lead to the liberation of a land,” said Maliki who arrived on Saturday to the Lebanese capital Beirut in a visit whereby he is set to meet a number of officials.

Maliki, who came from Baghdad accompanied with a delegation, was received at the Beirut International Airport by State Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Mohammad Fneish, Iraqi ambassador to Lebanon Raad al-Allousi and a number of embassy staff.
