Rai calls on members of spiritual court to hasten issuance of verdicts

Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Beshara Boutros Rai called Friday on the members of the Spiritual Court to hasten the issuance of the verdicts, stressing that this does not mean neglecting evidence or misreading the cases, but only abstaining from any potential procrastination.

In this regard, Rai added that Pope Francis established a committee tasked with looking into the possibility of shortening the due process of ecclesiastical trial proceedings.

On another note, the patriarch noted that a committee has been formed in order to conduct reconciliations between married couples, adding that this committee organized sessions for civil attorneys in the nature of ecclesiastical trials and jurisprudence.

“The judges are the servants of justice,” Rai stated.
