PM Salam declares December 21 day of mourning for victims of Algerian plane crash

Prime Minister Tammam Salam announced a day of mourning on Sunday (December 21) for the victims of the Algerian plane crash of July 24, the state-run National News Agency reported on Friday.

The bodies of the Lebanese victims are set to arrive to the Beirut airport late on Sunday at around 7 p.m. with the escort of Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil, Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Haytham Jomaa, the secretary-general of the High Relief Committee Major General Mohammad Kheir and a number of expatriates.

At least 19 Lebanese passengers were on board the ill-fated Air Algerie plane, which had taken off on July 24 from Ouagadougou in Burkina Faso bound for Algiers.

Passengers from Burkina Faso, Algeria, Spain, Canada, Germany and Luxembourg also perished in the plane crash.
