Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdel Latif Daryan stressed on Tuesday the importance of dissociating Lebanon from developments in neighboring countries, mainly the states of the Gulf Cooperation Council. “Any meddling in the affairs of Arab countries doesn't express the opinion of Dar al-Fatwa,” Daryan stressed during a meeting with Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser al-Thani in Doha. The Mufti voiced hope that the “Lebanese nationals wouldn't have to pay the price of statements made by some Lebanese sides,” considering that such remarks have a direct impact on the businesses of the Lebanese in the Gulf region. Daryan's statements come in light of the provocative remarks made by Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah against Bahrain, which stirred controversy in the Gulf countries. For his part, the Qatari PM stressed that the Lebanese expatriates in Qatar are successful and will not be affected or avenged because of statements made by others. On January 9, Nasrallah alleged the presence of a “Zionist-like naturalization plan” in Bahrain. His statement was met by wide Arab dismay, with the GCC declared the remarks contained “an incitement to violence and discord.”
