US Department of State issues new travel warning advisory to Lebanon

The US Department of State issued a new travel warning advisory to Lebanon over the current safety and security concerns, citing reports stating that future suicide bombing targets allegedly include Casino du Liban in Jounieh and Le Royal hotel in Dbayeh.

According to a statement issued by the US embassy: “The development serves as a main reminder of the ongoing security concerns in Lebanon - even in regions which are normally considered less dangerous.”

The statement hailed the “important successes” carried out by the Lebanese security forces to prevent suicide attacks.

However, the embassy urged U.S. citizens in Lebanon to “exercise heightened security awareness and take the right measures to guarantee their safety and security.”

U.S. citizens were urged not to travel to Lebanon due to “safety and security concerns.”

Media reports stated on Friday that investigations with detained suspects showed that armed men were plotting to target Casino du Liban and Le Royal hotel.

Reports said that the Lebanese army has so far apprehended several would-be suicide bombers, and is pursuing a gang of four men on suspicions of plotting more attacks.
