Bassil inks amended bill of Foreign Ministry bylaws to establish gender equity

Foreign Affairs Minister, Gebran Bassil, signed on Friday a bill pertaining to the amendment of the ministry's bylaws, the state-run National News Agency reported.

Bassil's step came within the framework of his reform campaign to amend and update the Foreign Ministry's bylaws and to establish equity between men and women.

In the details Bassil filed a request demanding the cancellation of item 4 of Article 12, which requires female candidates to be single as a prerequisite to applying for a position at the foreign ministry.

The regulation falls under Decree No. 1306 date 18/06/197.

The minister referred the bill to the cabinet for approval.
