Emir of al-Nusra Front in Qalamoun: Damascus bus bombing is clear message to Hezbollah
The emir of the al-Qaeda-linked al-Nusra Front in al-Qalamoun, Abou Malek al-Shami, said on Tuesday that the explosion that targeted a bus carrying Lebanese Shiite pilgrims in Syria’s Damascus is “a clear message for those who are assaulting the Sunnites.”

Al-Shami’s remarks were made in a post via his Facebook page in which he said that Hezbollah played a considerable role in supporting “the vicious Nusairi regime” and shedding the blood of the Sunnites in Damascus, adding that the response “had to be brutal.”

He also slammed “certain sides that are describing the attack as terrorist for turning a blind eye to Hezbollah's crimes against the Sunnites in the Sham region.”

“Those sides are supporting Hezbollah by oppressing the Syrians who were obliged to flee their country to Lebanon and other nations,” he added.

Al-Shami also urged Sunnites in Lebanon and Syria to “avenge” those who helped in the genocide of the Sham region.

A blast targeted a bus carrying Lebanese Shiite pilgrims in Damascus on Sunday, killing at least nine people in an attack claimed by the al-Nusra Front.

The bombing highlighted the sectarian nature of Syria's war, and how neighboring Lebanon has become ensnared in the conflict.

Al-Nusra accused the bus passengers of being Hezbollah fighters, claiming it was a suicide bombing, while Syrian state media and Hezbollah-run al-Manar TV both said the explosion was caused by a bomb placed on the bus.

Hezbollah’s direct involvement in the Syrian conflict has prompted hard-line Sunnite radicals to lash out against Shiite communities in Lebanon.
