Public Works and Transport Minister Ghazi Zoaiter vowed on Friday to improve conditions at Rafic Hariri International Airport after British Airways was ordered by authorities in London to halt cargo activities from the facility. Zoaiter’s comments were made during a press conference whereby he noted that the changes introduced by British Airways prompted some changes at the airport. “The airport will receive equipment to detect explosives,” he added. British Airways ordered a stop to the transport of goods starting March after the facility failed to meet International inspection standards. Britain's decision came following a study that placed Rafic Hariri International Airport in the same ranking as Sudan and Djibouti. The ranking threatens to put Lebanon on the blacklist of freight traffic and could also affect passenger traffic.
