Cardinal Rai underscores need to abstain from backing militants

Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Beshara Boutros al-Rai celebrated Sunday Mass in Bkerke and delivered a sermon as Christians across Lebanon marked the Easter religious holiday.

“The suffering of the Lebanese people is at its peak amid the failure to elect a head of state and the political differences between two parties that have divided the country,” Rai said in reference to the March 8 and 14 coalitions.

Cardinal Rai also stressed the need to prioritize peacemaking efforts, be it within the state, society, church or households, urging world powers to abstain from providing weapons to militants and back, instead, comprehensive peace solutions.
