Hezbollah: Islamic State’s crime in Libya aims at starting sectarian and religious wars

Hezbollah denounced the latest crime committed by the Islamic State in Libya whereby dozens of Ethiopian Christians were killed, offering condolences to the families of the victims.

In a statement issued by Hezbollah’s media bureau, the Shiite party said that this crime is an episode of a series of acts aiming at tarnishing the reputation of Islam and Muslims around the world, and at starting sectarian and religious wars to serve the “malicious plans of Western and Arab intelligence services.”

In this context, Hezbollah noted that the criminal ideology of the Islamic State is the biggest threat to the Arab World, stressing the need to fight against this system.

“The footage published by the Islamic State depicting the execution of the Ethiopian citizens, along with scenes showing the destruction of churches, monasteries as well as attacks against Islamic and Christian holy sites in the Iraqi city of Mosul, must be seen as an incentive for all the powers around the world to eradicate this terrorist organization and its funders,” the statement added.

A video purportedly made by Islamic State and posted on social media sites on Sunday appeared to show militants shooting and beheading about 30 Ethiopian Christians in Libya.

The video, in which militants call Christians "crusaders" who are out to kill Muslims, showed about 15 men being beheaded on a beach and another group of the same size being shot in the head in a patch of scrubland.

On Monday, Ethiopia confirmed that the 30 Christians shown in the video were its citizens.
