MP Kanaan to LBCI: FPM ready to cooperate with all political parties
Change and Reform Bloc MP Ibrahim Kanaan stated on Wednesday that the meeting that took place between Lebanese Forces Chief Samir Geagea and Free Patriotic Movement Leader Michel Aoun is very important at the current time, stressing that the FPM is ready to cooperate with all political parties for the benefit of Lebanon.

MP Kanaan told LBCI’s Nharkom Said that one political party cannot eliminate the other, stressing that discussions will be held with various political factions to resolve the presidential deadlock.

He also said that he received an encouraging message from Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Beshara Boutros Rai, pointing out that the latter voiced his support to the meeting between LF’s Geagea and MP Aoun.

On Tuesday (June 02) a meeting was held in Rabieh between Change and Reform Bloc leader MP Michel Aoun and Lebanese Forces chief Samir Geagea in the presence of MP Ibrahim Kanaan, and LF Media Official Melhem Riachi.

Following the meeting, MP Kanaan and Riachi recited the Declaration of Intent, stressing that the two parties are committed to dialogue and to the formula of coexistence and the constitution.

The two parties highlighted the necessity of electing a strong president who is embraced by his community, and also emphasized the importance of reinforcing state institutions.

Officials also said that both parties stressed the importance of supporting the Lebanese Army, pointing out that “it is the sole institution capable of preserving sovereignty and national security.”

Meanwhile, LF’s Geagea stated that the meeting should have been held 30 years ago, adding that both political parties have positive influence on Lebanese affairs.

For his part, MP Aoun described the meeting as a “gift for Christians”, stressing that the two parties are adamant on working together to implement the Declaration of Intent.
