LBCI's Chairman Sheikh Pierre El Daher offered to buy the concrete wall that was set up last week to separate the Grand Serail from the demonstrators and which was later dubbed as “The Wall of Shame”.
In this regard, Sheikh El Daher informed one of the state officials of his intention, who in turn contacted the entrepreneur Jihad al-Arab, who said that he cannot make such a decision, but Prime Minister Tammam Salam is the one in charge of this matter.
According to As-Safir newspaper, El Daher offered to buy ten concrete blocks from the wall, which was made form 32 blocks, for any price.
For his part, Sheikh El Daher denied such information, pointing out that he offered to buy the whole wall, not only ten blocks, if the price was suitable for him.
In a statement to the same daily, he added that the offer was called off, not for financial reasons, but “because PM Salam categorically rejected it,” stating that he respected his decision.
In the same context, LBCI chairman stressed that the motive behind his intention is the wall's symbolism, noting that he was willing to keep it in a historical place, since it represents a milestone in Lebanon’s history.
