Hezbollah leader Sayyed Nasrallah welcomes Russian buildup in Syria, says US has failed

Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah welcomed on Friday Russia’s direct involvement in Syria’s conflict.

Sayyed Nasrallah said in an interview with al-Manar TV it was the failure of a US-led campaign to defeat Islamic State that had pushed Russia to become directly involved in the conflict.

“We welcome any force which intervenes and supports the front in Syria, because through its participation, it will contribute to pushing away the major dangers that are threatening Syria and the region,” Hezbollah leader stated.

Commenting on the Saudi Hajj stampeded that killed hundreds of pilgrims, Nasrallah warned against politicizing the incident, pointing out that it would be logical if the Saudi government took responsibility of the event.

Speaking of Zabadani battle, Sayyed Nasrallah described it as “a heavy burden on the Lebanese-Syrian border and a threat to al-Masnaa border crossing.”

He added that the Zabadani battle could have ended a long time ago, noting that they prolonged it in order to resolve the issue of the Fouaa and Kafraya.

Concerning the presidential issue, Nasrallah said that "MP Michel Aoun is the most suitable candidate for the presidency," stressing that Hezbollah will keep on supporting him, as long as he is a candidate.
