Charbel: Mawlawi’s arresting officer summoned for investigations

The press office of Minister of Interior and Municipalities Marwan Charbel said on Monday that the officer who entered one of the social services offices of Finance Minister Mohammad Safadi in Tripoli has been summoned by General Security for investigations over his sudden entry to the above-mentioned office, leading to the arrest of Shadi Mawlawi.

Shadi Mawlawi, an Islamist, was arrested two days ago on charges of maintaining ties to a "terrorist group." After his arrest, fierce clashes erupted in Tripoli, causing many casualties and injuries.

General Security officials reportedly lured Mawlawi, using the pretext he would receive healthcare, to an office of Finance Minister Mohammad Safadi's welfare association in Tripoli.
