March 14 General Secretariat urges cabinet to pay STL financial dues

March 14 General Secretariat called on PM Najib Mikati’s cabinet to pay Lebanon’s financial dues to the Special tribunal for Lebanon (STL) that has been endorsed “in principle” by the current cabinet, adding that the total has now reached $32 million.

The secretariat issued a statement saying that any reluctance shown by the Lebanese cabinet to pay Lebanon’s financial dues will be considered a breach of Lebanon’s international commitments.

“If the cabinet does not live up to its financial obligation to the STL it will be regarded as a fresh blow dealt to the Lebanese people who are seeking justice”, the statement added.

The General Secretariat urged the Lebanese government, the state’s institutions and the civil society associations to adopt the culture of peace and freedom.

The statement hailed the initiative taken by Lebanon’s youth to rally in Samir Kassir square on Thursday in solidarity with the Syrian people.

“The initiative taken by the Lebanese youth is a brave one and shows Lebanon’s commitment to the free people and rebels in Syria”, the statement added.
