Works Committee: Wasteful spending must stop
The parliamentary Public Works and Transportation Committee convened on Thursday to discuss the factors that will be used later on to examine the electricity bill.

The Head of the committee Mohammad Qabbani said, following the meeting, that the participants stressed the importance of ending wasteful spending in the electricity sector by gradually implementing the public-private partnerships (PPP) and independent power projects (IPP).

“The Lebanese have the right to enjoy a 24-hour electricity supply at affordable prices”, Qabbani added.

The committee reserves the right to discuss any bill pertaining to the electricity sector and to its domain of expertise, he noted.

The parliamentary committee called for devising a clear fuel strategy, adding that Arab and Muslim backers have offered $500 million contract bids for the electricity project.

When asked about his opinion on the electricity plan, Qabbani answered: “When it is officially submitted to the Parliament, we will look into it.”
