Case of abducted Lebanese pilgrims, between Turkish ambassador and families

A delegation of families related to the abducted Lebanese pilgrims in Syria met the Turkish ambassador to Lebanon Inan Auzildise Wednesday in hopes of receiving updates in the case of their loved ones. No new updates were given by the Turkish Ambassador.

Following the meeting, the delegation’s spokeswoman, Mrs. Mona Abbas confirmed that the ambassador promised them to intensify the efforts in order to release the 11 abductees, noting that he told the delegation that the Lebanese abductees are not in the Turkish territory, but may be on the border.

Mrs. Abbas said that “it is not advisable that Turkey appear as a weak country”, pointing that it has the ability to release the abductees.

The 11 men were snatched in northern Syria in May some 51 days ago, on their way back from a Shiite Muslim shrine. A previously unknown group calling itself “Syrian Rebels, Aleppo Province” claimed responsibility for the abduction, according to a statement received by Al Jazeera, the pan-Arab satellite TV channel.
