Sonia, victim of "honor"; a story from the "middle ages"

Sonia was killed on Wednesday at 3:30 a.m. by her brother only because he “suspected” that she had an affair with an unidentified man. Sonia, the victim of an “honor crime”, was slain inside her house in Tripoli’s Bab al-Ramel neighborhood.

Her brother was arrested by security forces as doubts are cast on the fate of this case. Article 562 of the penal code, which views the “honor crime” with less severity, was annulled last year.

However, the annulment is a mere "band aid" given that article 252 of the same code grants a chance to vindication, reducing the severity of many criminal charges.
