A national committee to address issue of the Lebanese detainees
After waiting for years to know the fate of their beloved,  the establishment of a national committee to address the issue of the Lebanese detainees might be their hope.

In the presence of the Minister of Justice, representatives of the International committee of the Red Cross, the committee of human rights, the decree of establishing a national committee to address the issue of the Lebanese detainees in Syria was discussed in parliament on Tuesday.

The meeting was held for discussing various points of view with a number of deputies stating their opinion regarding the issue and Justice Minister Shakib Qortbawi promising to raise the decree to cabinet as soon as possible.

Parents of the detainees pointed out that establishing this committee is only the beginning for serious work to follow regarding gathering information about those abducted and detained in Syria.

From his side, The head of the Support of Lebanese in Detention and Exile Organization in Lebanon (SOLIDE) declared to LBCI that establishing a committee is a step towards the right direction pointing out that its establishment gives it to right to communicate with Lebanese security services and concerned institutions.
As for the Human Rights association, its head MP Michel Moussa declared that this is an important step that must be established without undergoing routine procedures that regular laws undergo.

It is worth mentioning that the national committee of the Lebanese detainees must be headed by a judge and should also include representatives of the Ministry of Defense and Internal Security Forces as well as representatives for the Commissioner of the Government and parents of the detainees.
