Berri: Fear for the resistance rather than fearing it

Speaker Nabih Berri highlighted Monday his commitment to an unconditional dialogue to build confidence among the Lebanese, confirming his support for Maronite Patriarch Beshara Rai in his bid to liberate the people from their worries.

 During a banquet held in honor of Rai, Berri called on those attending to “fear for the resistance rather than fearing it”, reiterating his call on the international community to exert pressure on Israel in order to halt violations against Lebanon. 

Berri highlighted the importance of coexistence, reiterating Lebanon’s commitment to resolution 1701. Berri urged the international community and decision-making states to exert pressure on Israel in order to withdraw from Shebaa farms, Kfarchouba and Gajar and halt violations against Lebanon, mainly the plundering of its offshore wealth.

Berri underlined Israel’s violation of international resolutions and its continued aggression which have resulted in the formation of the resistance, adding that the resistance will persevere to fight against any aggression.  

On the Syrian events, Berri highlighted the importance of steering clear of provocative rhetoric, warning of a new “Sykes-Picot” agreement. “The events there doe not only target Syria, rather a number of countries in the region, among which is Lebanon,” he added.
