Syndicate of Doctors reject amendments to non-smoking law

A meeting was held on Wednesday in the Syndicate of Doctors to support the non-smoking law and refuse its amendments.

The Vice President and Communication Manager at Tobacco Free Initiative Lebanon Rania Baroud stressed that all political forces, trade and academic unions reject any amendments on the law number 174.

During the meeting, Deputy Atef Majdalani asked every citizen to follow up the implementation of the aforementioned law.

Law 174 enforced on the 3rd of September 2012 bans all forms of smoking in closed public spaces.

The law has been criticized for being too strict and having a negative impact on the tourism sector in terms of customer influx to restaurants and pubs.
