Families of Lebanese hostages in Syria stage sit-in before Turkish embassy

For the second time, the families of the Lebanese detainees held in Aazaz in Aleppo held a sit-in before the Turkish embassy in Lebanon’s Rabieh. Hoisting posters and placards, the families condemned the delay in the release of their loved ones, placing Turkish authorities responsible.

Released detainee Awad Ibrahim was present at the sit-in whereby he called for speeding up in the release of his comrades.

Ibrahim held the Turkish state responsible and told LBCI that it failed to deliver its promise to release all of the Lebanese detainees before Eid al-Adha.

In turn, Adham Zgheib, one of the abductees’ relatives, told LBCI that the abduction was covered by Turkey, adding that through this sit-in, they want to convey political messages.

The families threatened of further escalatory moves against Turks in Lebanon, stressing that the UNIFIL Turkish contingent is "unwelcome."

Eleven Lebanese pilgrims were kidnapped on their way back from Iran by insurgents hoping to use them for a prisoner swap on the 20th of May. Only two have been released so far.
