Sabounjian to LBC: Export ban to Syria only temporary

Industry Minister Vrej Sabounjian told LBC that cutting off some industrial exports to Syria is an exceptional decision, adding “I contacted the concerned parties and it turned out to be a temporary decision”.

The Association of Lebanese Industrialists, Neemat Frem, said that cutting off Syrian exports to Syria is more of an economic than a political matter.

“The decision was probably taken to preserve foreign currencies”, Frem told LBC.

Industrialists were caught by surprise four days ago when a Syrian governmental decision was taken to cut off imports of Lebanese industrial products without any justification.

Lebanese exports to Syria include food industries, concrete, electromechanical instruments and other materials. The only positive note is that transit to Arab countries through the Syrian territories was not affected.
