U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Near East Affairs Elizabeth Jones arrived on Tuesday night to Beirut from Cairo. Jones met on wednesdaywith President Michel Sleiman at Baabda Palace under auspices of the American ambassador to Lebanon Maura Connelly.
She informed the President on the US Defense Department’s decision in resuming the military aid program for the LAF to maintain security, stability, and social peace.
Jones pointed out that her country has prepared an aid program for countries hosting the displaced Syrians in cooperation with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)
After the meeting she stressed on the importance of the institution’s work especially in the current situation in order to prevent any political void.
