Geagea: Assad’s allies in Lebanon in a state of sheer confusion
Lebanese Forces Leader Samir Geagea said Monday that the popular uprising in Syria aims at toppling the current system and forming a more democratic regime, adding that “the Syrian path to democracy will be bumpy; nevertheless, the wheel of history only moves forward.”

Geagea said, in a conference call with the Lebanese forces - Buffalo NY Chapter, that “the allies of the Syrian regime in Lebanon are in a state of sheer confusion so that they are showering us today with their calls for dialogue.”

“Assad’s allies in Lebanon are sensing the near end of the Syrian regime, they are taking protective measures in case the regime falls. Everyone in Lebanon today is anticipating the next phase; don’t expect March 14 or March 8 to take any major steps in the current phase aside from carrying out day-to-day tasks.”

Geagea confirmed that “Lebanon’s stability hinges on an electoral law that embodies the principles of the Taif agreement, according to which, each sect, Muslim and Christian, is allocated 64 seats in the parliament”, calling for adopting the electoral law that stays most true to the Taif principles.

In his concluding remarks, Geagea pointed out the ongoing discussion on the matter, in light of the Christian meetings held in Bkerke or between the LF and Future movement, adding that “these deliberations are complicated but they will eventually amount to a better electoral law.”
