Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants Abdallah Bou Habib welcomed on Wednesday in his office at the Ministry his Cypriot counterpart Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulides, and an accompanying delegation.

Talks reportedly touched on the bilateral relations between the two countries, notably the aid provided by Cyprus to Lebanon following the Aug 4 Beirut Port blast.

Speaking at a joint press conference after the meeting, Minister Bou Habib welcomed the delegation in Lebanon, deeming relations between Lebanon and Cyprus as historic, consolidated and a role model to be followed.

"I hope that this visit will be an additional step in our joint efforts to bolster the strong bonds that have always characterized our bilateral relations," Bou Habib maintained.

The Cypriot Foreign Minister, in turn, affirmed the depth of relations between the two countries and the feeling of affinity that the Cypriots have for Lebanon and its people.

Minister Christodoulides welcomed the formation of the new government in Lebanon, considering it a "positive development."

He pointed out that Lebanon is at a fateful crossroad, and that the new government must face challenges, especially in light of the current economic crisis, stressing the importance of swiftly carrying out reforms.
