The Economy and Trade Ministry raised the price of a medium-sized bundle of Lebanese white bread at bakeries from LL75,000 to LL80,000, an increase of 5,000 LBP.
The ministry attributed the increase to higher production costs, noting that diesel prices have doubled since the start of the crisis and account for around 22% of bread production costs.
It added that the pricing mechanism works both ways and that the price will be lowered if production costs decline.
