Smuggling of 54 persons by sea thwarted-[PHOTOS]

Patrols of the Lebanese naval forces were able on Sunday to intercept the smuggling of persons by the sea, detaining 54 people (25 men, 9 women and 20 children).

They were on the al-Ballan island off the northern coastal city of Tripoli, awaiting the arrival of a number of boats that would transport them by sea illegally.

Furthermore, a patrol was able to save a sinking boat on its route to Cyprus, rescuing 9 individuals on board, all of them were Syrian nationals.

This as other patrols seized three boats used for smuggling operations and arrested a number of smugglers on board.
