PM Mikati requests UN support to Lebanon concerning food security

Prime Minister Najib Mikati asked on Tuesday United Nations Lebanon Deputy Special Coordinator Resident & Humanitarian Coordinator for Lebanon Najat Rochdi the UN support to Lebanon in terms of the anti-corruption program and the recovery of public funds, since Lebanon is one of the countries that signed the program.

Mikai also requested UN support to Lebanon concerning food security, and that in accordance with the United Nations plan to confront the ramifications of the Ukrainian war on all countries, particularly those in the region, including Lebanon, and to assist the country in dealing with the multiple challenges posed by the presence of displaced Syrians in Lebanon.

This came during a meeting with Rochdi and United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) Rola Dashti at the Grand Serail.

In a separate context, Mikati was briefed on UNESCO's work program in Lebanon to address the challenges facing the education sector during a meeting with Director of the UNESCO Regional Bureau in Beirut Costanza Farina, who briefed him on the completion of the UNESCO project to restore and rehabilitate 150 schools damaged by the Port of Beirut explosion.

Mikati then met with Lebanon's ambassadors to the Netherlands Abdel Sattar Issa, and Saudi Arabia Fawzi Kabara, and asked them to represent Lebanon at the Organization of Islamic Cooperation conference in Islamabad.

Then he met with lawmaker Samir Al-Jisr.
