Critical hours ahead of Labor-Trade unions’ meeting
The Index Committee met on Friday afternoon headed by the Minister of Works Charbel Nahas to find a convenient solution for both workers and business owners. The General Confederation of Lebanese Workers (CGTL) was notably absent from the meeting.

The trade unions representing business owners rejected any wage adjustment imposed by labor unions who do not take into consideration the capacities of the enterprises that are unable to meet these demands amid the ongoing economic crisis.

In a previous meeting the trade unions considered that the CGTL demands are beyond reason and threaten the viability of most Lebanese enterprises. On the other hand the CGTL called on all workers and labor unions to participate in a demonstration planned on Wednesday in case the discussions with the concerned authorities failed.

Earlier on Friday a delegation from the CGTL met with PM Mikati and did not reach any clear solutions where both parties agreed to meet again after the Index Committee’s decisions. The Index Committee will be meeting on Saturday morning with PM Mikati to find a solution for the ongoing situation.
